AUTOMATX User Guide

1. Getting Started
AUTOMATX is a real-time Audio-to-MIDI translator that converts live audio input into MIDI note data for musical applications.
  • 1. Click "REQUEST MICROPHONE" to enable audio input access
  • 2. Select your audio input device from the dropdown menu
  • 3. Choose your MIDI output device for sending translated notes
  • 4. Start playing audio - watch the pitch gauge detect your notes
2. Audio Input Setup
Configure your audio source for optimal pitch detection and MIDI conversion.
  • 1. Use a quality microphone or direct audio input for best results
  • 2. Play single notes or simple melodies (avoid complex chords)
  • 3. Adjust Sensitivity (50-100%) to match your input level
  • 4. Monitor the waveform visualizer for consistent audio levels
Audio Tip:
For instruments: use direct line input when possible. For vocals: sing clear sustained notes. Avoid background noise and reverb.
Android Note:
Audio source selection may be limited on Android devices due to browser restrictions. The device may use the default microphone regardless of selection.
3. MIDI Output Control
Connect to MIDI devices and software to use your translated audio as musical input.
  • 1. Select your MIDI output device from the dropdown (virtual or hardware)
  • 2. Connect to DAW software, synthesizers, or other MIDI instruments
  • 3. Use virtual MIDI cables like LoopMIDI for software connections
  • 4. Test output by playing audio and monitoring MIDI activity
4. Detection Parameters
Fine-tune pitch detection behavior with four adjustable parameters for optimal performance.
  • Sensitivity (50-100%): Pitch clarity threshold - higher for cleaner signals
  • Responsiveness (1-200ms): Note confirmation time - lower for faster response
  • Transition (0-100%): Note change smoothness - higher for gradual transitions
  • Tolerance (10-100%): Pitch detection accuracy - lower for strict detection
Performance Tip:
Start with default settings, then adjust Sensitivity to match your audio level and Responsiveness for your playing style.
5. Musical Scale Filtering
Constrain MIDI output to specific musical scales for harmonic accuracy and creative expression.
  • 1. Select root Key from C to B (including sharps/flats)
  • 2. Choose from 12 Scales: Major, Minor, Pentatonic, Blues, Modal scales
  • 3. Toggle Filtering on/off to enable scale constraints
  • 4. Use arrow keys to navigate through keys and scales quickly
Musical Tip:
Try Pentatonic for easy improvisation, Blues for expressive playing, or Major/Minor for traditional harmony.
6. Visual Feedback System
Monitor your audio-to-MIDI conversion with comprehensive real-time visual displays.
  • Waveform Visualizer: Shows audio input levels and signal strength
  • Pitch Gauge: Displays detected pitch with note name and frequency
  • Piano Keyboard: Highlights active notes with scale note visualization
